I’m stepping up to restore sight!

I'm taking on Fred’s Big Run this August to STEP UP TO RESTORE SIGHT!

My goal is to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation to continue the legacy of an Australian legend, Fred Hollows.

Because right now, 9 out of 10 people who are blind don't need to be...

And an operation that costs as little as $25 can help restore sight to someone who is needlessly blind, and change their life forever!

Please make a donation and support my challenge to give the gift of sight.

Fred Hollows' dream was to live in a world where no one was needlessly blind, please sponsor my challenge and let's honour his memory together.

Thank you for your support.

MY IMPACT

I've restored sight to up to 85 people so far. As little as $25 can restore sight to one person

My Updates

Last day

Thursday 31st Aug
Last day of our 100 km challenge and Lucky’s keen to go again 😍. Thanks beautiful little co-pilot for keeping me motivated! I can’t promise 100 km a month but am looking forward to continuing our daily ritual! Thanks also to wonderful Team Pace Oddity, Capt AK for your encouraging pokes, our generous sponsors, and Fred! We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the buzz of helping to make a difference in so many people’s lives (did you know one sight restored has a four-time compounding benefit to a village!?!), and look forward to doing it again in 2024.

Day 30

Wednesday 30th Aug
Dodged the showers to get another 4 km in this arvo so only another 4 needed for our last day tomorrow. Well done Lucky girl!! Happy to also announce all donations being matched tomorrow (up to $150) thanks to a generous soul. Only $35 needed to achieve our financial goal if anyone has capacity to contribute. So grateful and many thanks for all the generous donations and support to date!!! It’s been a pleasure to do this challenge and to be contributing to such a great cause!

Day 29

Tuesday 29th Aug
8 kms, 2 days and $35 to go!!

Day 28

Monday 28th Aug
12 km and 3 days to go.

Day 25

Friday 25th Aug
Feeling pretty chuffed we’re on the homestretch now with only 38 km and 6 days to go (and because it’s Friday)!

Day 24

Thursday 24th Aug
Just enough time and energy for a comfortable 3 kms today (and happy birthday mum!)

Day 23

Wednesday 23rd Aug
We’ve finally crossed the halfway mark with our activity goal with 46 km (and 8 days) to go!

Day 21

Monday 21st Aug
10 days and 55kms to go.

Day 20

Sunday 20th Aug
Perfect weather and lots of bird spotting enjoyed on this morning’s walk.

Day 19

Saturday 19th Aug
Despite the persisting winds, pleased to announce we made it back to the track and achieved today’s goal of 6 km.

Day 18

Friday 18th Aug
For anyone who is actually reading these updates, I’m very sorry to advise that I’ve postponed our re-entry into this challenge due to strong, August westerlies that have descended upon us today. Deciding the cold, 40 km/h gusts will not fare well with my lingering cough and running nose. Daily activity now 6.2 per day for remainder of the month. Still comfortably within our doable range!!! We’ll get there yet!!!

Day 14

Monday 14th Aug
So very sorry for the absence of updates but even more sorry to advise we’ve been sidelined due to ill health. Anticipating we’ll be back to the track by Friday 18th, which means we’ll have to double our daily activity goals from here on in to make up for lost time! Thanks so much to all our supporters!!  We want to reassure you we’re totally committed to achieving both activity and financial goals. Without a doubt we’ll get there!!

Day 7

Monday 7th Aug
Another sensational afternoon and sunset.

Day 6

Sunday 6th Aug
Lots of young Australasian grebes on lake at moment. This tiny fellow prob a quarter the size of an adult, which grow up to 25-28cm. So cute!!!

Day 5

Saturday 5th Aug
A quick 7.5km with time to stop and smell the roses (or eramophilas) 😊

Day 3

Thursday 3rd Aug
Sadly no activity today as a quick trip to the vet took priority after work. Happy to report my little co-pilot’s suspect lump is just fatty tissue and benign. With this great outcome and relief, we’re happy to take today as a rest day and look forward to resuming our challenge again tomorrow.

Day 2

Wednesday 2nd Aug
Feeling blessed to have the miracle of sight to enjoy such a magnificent sunset. 92 kms to go.

Day 1

Tuesday 1st Aug
View from Lake Apex on our first walk on day one of the challenge. May we have many more glorious afternoons like today.
