surpassed my goals

it is with great pleasure that I can say I have surpassed my goals. my initial fundraising goal was $250 then I changed it to $1000, but I even surpassed that by more than doubling it

changed my km goal

had to reduce my goal of 150km to 100km so I can feel accomplished as it would be to difficult to make up the 40km i had left to do with my new job and fatigue from working 12 hours last night and not finishing until 2am still feeling great but is i unfortunate I had to reduce my km goal

Day 28 - 150km goal achieved!!

Today’s Walk: 10.9km Month to date total: 151.4km Fundraising: $795 Today is my last day off this month so I wanted to make it count. I had 9.5km to go to reach my goal of 150km for the month. I went for a long walk down the walking trail close to home, stopped at a park for a swing, and then walked home again, a total of 10.9km meaning I have now passed my kilometre goal!

walking after covid😊

out walking again after covid - due to sick time I won’t meet my 100k so just doing the best I can 😊

Day 23

Today’s Walk: 13km Month to date: 133.7km It has been a couple of days since my last update, I did do a short walk on Monday, but yesterday was the first day this month I actually didn’t go for a walk. I think I made up for it today though! I stayed close to home and made my way along the walking trail and different streets. I saw lots of nice plants in people’s gardens.

Day 20

Today’s Walk: 6.4km Went for a nice walk this morning along the bike/walking trail and back along some side streets.

Day 19

This morning I went for a long walk in the rain! Luckily for me it wasn’t raining too heavily, so I only got a little bit damp under my umbrella ☔️ Getting closer to my 150 km goal!!

Day 18

Today’s Walk 3.6km Month to date total: 102.5km Today I passed the 100km mark, two thirds of the way to my distance goal for August! And thanks to my generous sponsors we have raised $795 for The Fred Hollows Foundation 😍 Hoping to add a couple of longer walks over the weekend!

Day 17

Today’s Walk: 3.7km Month to date total: 98.9km With two weeks to go I am almost two-thirds of the way to my kilometre goal! I went for a walk this morning, it was raining slightly for part of the way. I’m so lucky to have a nice walking path and safe streets around me to go for my walks ❤️

walking in Noosa

I feel very privileged that I have had wonderful walks by the sea. I even saw some whales.

Day 16

Fred’s Big Run: Day 16 Today’s Walk: 7.3km Month to date total: 95.3km Today I went for a walk at the beach! I started at Seacliff and walked to Somerton and back. It was a really nice walk. Lots of people were out, despite it being a weekday. Nice to see signage and roped off areas for breeding Hooded Plovers, I hope they’re successful!

Day 14 & 15

Fred’s Big Run Days 14 & 15 Total walked 6.7 km Month to date total 88.0km A couple more short walks before work! Looking forward to my day off tomorrow so I can get in a longer walk. I have been lucky with the weather, it was a lovely sunny morning today.

sunny day 8.9km

sore feet last 1km

Two weeks in

I’ve completed 42.3 kms. Knees are a bit tender but keeping going.

done me ankle

hopefully my ankle is better in the next few days so I can keep up with the challenge of 150km

covid struck 🤒

I began the challenge well but then out of the blue covid got me for the first time! so a few quiet days. I will gradually walk back into the challenge next week slowly 😊

Day 11

Day 11 and I’m halfway to my 150km goal! I had a late shift followed by an early shift so I didn’t get in my usual morning walk, so I decided to go for a walk straight after work before it got too dark. I did a few laps around the big carpark surrounding my workplace and clocked up 3.8km. And by the time I finished I should have dodged most of the peak hour traffic!

Rain run

just did my first ever 20km was all about Fred no pain nogain

Day 10

Saw these cute bees on my walk this morning! Another 8km logged 🐝

Let's get this happening ❤️

I have kickstarted it off with a $50 donation and Thursday morning walked the Hinze Dam wall several times (12.7 klms). Saturday, I hiked the Warrie Circuit / Purling Brook Waterfall (5.5 klms) and took some amazing photos 📸 If anyone would like join/sign up with me please send me a message so that we can work together as a team or if you prefer to sign up yourself or have a team willing to accept the challenge let me know.... Thank you for taking the time to read my post and very big thank you in advance to those who are able to support me and make a donation.

Day 9

Today was a big day! I took advantage of a day off and some nice sunny weather and headed to the Onkaparinga River Recreation Park. I parked at Perry’s Bend and started my walk from there. I walked along the river for a while before crossing the footbridge and then walking underneath South Road and into Old Noarlunga. I crossed another road bridge and footbridge and passed into the Onkaparinga River National Park. I hiked parts of the Old Coach Link trail and Old Noarlunga Hike, which took me up a steep hill where I had fantastic views of the surrounding area, and to the sea. I descended and took a different route back to where I had started to avoid covering too much of the same ground twice. It was a really enjoyable walk, 13.6 km in total which took me just under 3 hours. In the evening I logged another 1 km as I went for a short walk to post a parcel, it all counts!

Fred’s Big Run Week 2 - Indigenous Australia Program - International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

This is week two of the 150 km walk challenge I have committed to this year, to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Thanks to the support of my colleagues and friends, I have raised around $3,500 to date, and completed about 66 km of the 150 km target. My aim is to raise as much as I could to support the important work carried out by the Fred Hollows Foundation. One of the key initiatives the Fred Hollows Foundation runs is the Indigenous Australia Program. This program helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with much needed treatments to prevent avoidable blindness. One of the key focus areas of this program is increased investment in and access to culturally appropriate eye care services to remote and underserved Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. A small donation of $25 that you could make today could help restoring sight to someone in need. If you are happy to support this appeal please make a donation to the Fred Hollow’s Foundation using this link. https://www.fredsbigrun.org/fundraisers/nilakshanswarnarajah/freds-big-run-2023 Today (9 August) also coincides with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, commemorated by the United Nations. This date marks the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations held on 9 August 1982. Further information about an online event to be hosted by the United Nations today can be found at https://social.desa.un.org/issues/indigenous-peoples/events/international-day-of-the-worlds-indigenous-peoples-2023. According to the UN, “Indigenous Peoples are inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment. They have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Indigenous Peoples have sought recognition of their identities, way of life and their right to traditional lands, territories and natural resources for years.“ For those of us living in Australia, it is also a moment to acknowledge the contributions of the traditional owners of the land where we live in, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. The day also provides an opportunity to spend a few minutes of our time to read the Uluru Statement from the Heart, https://www.recwa.org.au/uluru-statement-from-the-heart/, to be informed of what the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have collectively put forward as their aspirations for the future. I shall end this note with the words of Nelson Mandela, on receiving the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report on 29 October 1998: “Let us celebrate our rich diversity as a people, the knowledge that when the TRC in its wisdom apportions blame, it points at previous state structures; political organisations; at institutions and individuals, but never at any community. Nor can any individual so identified claim that their brutal deeds were the result of some character inherent in any community or language group. All of us are therefore now more free to be who we really are; no longer forced to experience some of those things which are most precious to us - language, culture or religion - as walls within which we are imprisoned”.

We’re stepping up to restore sight!

We're taking on Fred’s Big Run this August to STEP UP TO RESTORE SIGHT!

Our goal is to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation to continue the legacy of an Australian legend, Fred Hollows.

Because right now, 9 out of 10 people who are blind don't need to be...

And an operation that costs as little as $25 can help restore sight to someone who is needlessly blind, and change their life forever!

Please make a donation and support our challenge to give the gift of sight.

Fred Hollows' dream was to live in a world where no one was needlessly blind, please sponsor our challenge and let's honour his memory together.

Thank you for your support.

MY TEAM'S IMPACT

Your team have restored sight to up to 4569 people so far. As little as $25 can restore sight to one person.
